26 January 2022 - Celebration of 73rd Republic Day

Republic Day 2022:

The 73rd Republic Day of India was celebrated in the Embassy of India, Bangkok, on 26 January 2022, with usual fervour, following the COVID-19 protocol. The National Flag was unfurled by Ambassador of India to Thailand, H.E. Ms. Suchitra Durai, followed by singing of the Indian National Anthem. Ambassador read out the Hon’ble President’s Address to the Nation. In her remarks, Ambassador elaborated upon the recent developments in bilateral relations including launch of celebration of 75th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Thailand this year along with continued celebration of ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and organisation of various events, bilateral trade reaching the record figure of around USD 15 billion in 2021 as well as the achievements of Government of India in carrying out world’s largest COVID-19 vaccination drive. She also congratulated Prof. Chirapat Prapandvidya for receiving the Padma Shri Award 2022 from the Government of India, for his contribution in promoting Sanskrit in Thailand.

Members of Indian diaspora and various associations representing various parts of India and friends of India participated in the Republic Day celebration enthusiastically. A short cultural programme including patriotic songs by Indian Women's Club and Bharatanatyam dance performance was also organised. Shri Gurmokh Singh Sachdev of Indian Association of Thailand was felicitated for his outstanding contributions in community service. A photo exhibition on Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, Azad Hind Fauj and his connection with Thailand was organised and Indian motorbikes- Royal Enfield and Bajaj were displayed.
