Home ›  › Introduction

The India-Thailand relationship has a strong growing regional dimension in addition to the bilateral aspect. India's 'Look East' Policy and Thailand's 'Look West' Policy complement each other in strengthening this regional partnership.

The regional cooperation framework of India-Thailand relations is reflected in a range of regional cooperation groupings such as - India-ASEAN, East Asia Summit ( EAS), Bay of Bengal Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation ( BIMSTEC), Mekong-Ganga-Cooperation ( MGC) and Asia Cooperation Dialogue ( ACD).

Thailand is among the 5 founder members of the 10-member ASEAN grouping, with which India now has annual Summit level interaction. The Leaders of India and Thailand also interact at the EAS forum that brings together 10 ASEAN members and six of their partners in East Asia. India, Thailand and four other ASEAN members also come together under the MGC umbrella.

India and Thailand were founder members of the BIMSTEC grouping which is a bridge between the South and South East Asia.

India also actively participates in the Thai initiative to create the pan Asian ACD.
