Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand is paying an official visit to India from 23-28 February, 2014. Her Royal Highness visited Nalanda and Bodh Gaya in Bihar and Kohima in Nagaland, before arriving in New Delhi. She is an eminent scholar of Sanskrit and Pali and has visited India several times in the past.

The visit of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand is the highest level visit to India from Thailand after the two visits of the Thai Prime Minister H.E. Ms Yingluck Shinawatra to India in 2012 and the visit of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to Thailand in 2013.

During the visit, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand will call on President Shri Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Shri M. Hamid Ansari and be hosted to a dinner by Minister for External Affairs Shri Salman Khurshid.

India and Thailand share a close and friendly comprehensive partnership based on civilisational exchanges and people-to-people contacts. In recent years, there has been significant progress in bilateral cooperation in key areas of mutual interest, as India’s Look East Policy has been complemented by Thailand’s Look West Policy. Both countries are regional partners linking South and Southeast Asia and cooperate closely in the ASEAN, East Asia Summit (EAS), BIMSTEC, Mekong Ganga Cooperation (MGC), Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) and other fora.
