1.   The Government of India has announced conferment of ‘Padma Bhushan’ Award, one of India’s highest Civilian Awards, on H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, on the occasion of the 68th Republic Day of India on 26 January 2017, for her contribution in the field of literature and education.  ‘Padma Bhushan’, is awarded for distinguished service of high order. 

2.  H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is the only foreign recipient of this Award this year. Earlier, in the last 35 years about 35 foreigners have been conferred with ‘Padma Bhushan’.  The award is conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at President House in New Delhi usually around March/ April every year.

3.   H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is also recipient of Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament and Development (2004) and first World Sanskrit Award (2016) awarded by India.
